Bulk LPG Terminal, Chennai

Indian Oiltanking was entrusted with setting up of a LPG bulk terminal for Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd (CPCL), as part of their refinery expansion program, when they decided to shift its bulk LPG Loading from their refinery premises. The new LPG bulk loading facility was constructed in Manali (Chennai) on a “Build, Own, Operate and Transfer” (BOOT) basis by Indian Oiltanking.

Effective and efficient design, engineering, tendering, procurement and construction management resulted in reduction in investment cost by as much as 25% vis-à-vis original estimates made by a renowned consultant. The terminal has world class operating systems including automation, fire fighting, safety and health as well as pollution and environmental control measures. The fire protection system includes water sprinkler system with deluge valves. CCTV for surveillance to ensure highest level of security and safety has been provided.

LPG is transferred through a 4 km cross country pipeline from the CPCL refinery. Terminal facilities are designed to handle a throughput of 400,000 MTPA.

LPG Bottling Plant, Chennai

Considering IOT’s excellent service at the terminal, CPCL awarded the construction of a new LPG bottling plant to IOT on BOOT basis for 10 years. The plant is adjacent to the existing bulk terminal. The plant has 2 x 24 Machine Electronic Carousels and allied facilities with a bottling capacity of 120,000 MTPM (30,000 Cylinders per day) and is a state-of-the-art plant, with economies of scale brought out by utilizing the existing storage, fire protection facilities, electrical sub station and other common infrastructure.
